Top Baby Names of 2012

Babycenter.com unveiled their influential list of top baby names for 2012, and the top ten list looks a lot like last year's, with Aiden and Emma rounding out the top.

Babycenter drew some conclusions about the list from pop culture, which are unproven but could be right. Why else would the name Grey move up a few spots if not for 50 Shades of Grey? I guess if you consider your child as part of the 50 Shades baby boom, you would name your baby after the book? And then would you also buy the T-shirt?

Boys Top Ten:

  1. Aiden
  2. Jackson
  3. Ethan
  4. Liam
  5. Mason
  6. Noah
  7. Lucas
  8. Jacob
  9. Jayden
  10. Jack

Girls Top Ten:

  1. Sophia
  2. Emma
  3. Olivia
  4. Isabella
  5. Ava
  6. Lily
  7. Zoe
  8. Chloe
  9. Mia
  10. Madison

If only I had the list of names that my husband and I drew up for our daughter - it was a choice between Sophie, Isabella (Bella) and the name we chose, which isn't in the top 20. Phew, that was a close one. It's a bad enough being named Emma as an adult and answering everytime someone yells: "EEEMMMAAAAA".

Want more chaos? Last year, a school banned yoga pants and kilts. I'm in my yoga pants right now in solidarity.
