Check Out These Extreme Family Photos
I wish we were better at family photos. We do endeavour to take one a year of the three kids sitting together in the summer, but as I write this I realize that we may not have one from this year.
And if we do, it is sitting in a folder on my desktop computer languishing with all the other photos from years past. We just aren't that creative with family photos.
But some families are!
Julie Cole, co-founder of Mabel's Labels, mom of six, and all around-spirited person, does an "extreme" family photo each year that really shows off the personalities and chaos that make up her "extreme" family.
The photographer, Justin Van Leeuwen, has an interesting portfolio with some other extreme family photos. I love the ones with the baby levitating.
The Kinsellas sound like another fun family. They were on the Today Show, talking about how they have done a silly family photo every year in the same pose-- for 23 years! (Gotta love the mullets in the early shots.) They have taken photos on the Field of Dreams, the day their mother died, and on vacation. They even got tattoos with the funny photo. I may be making assumptions but it seems like the act of taking the photo has drawn them closer over the last two decades.
I'm a little bit jealous. I wish I had marked the passage of time in such a fun way too. I wonder if my kids will take on this challenge, probably not. I am destined to read these stories and feel a little left out.
(For the ultimate photo retrospective check out this video that a dad made of his daughter over time.)
How about you? Do you have a tradition when it comes to taking photos of your kids? Do you wish you did?

Want more chaos? Last year, I wasn't too surprised when a woman who had a baby at 57 had some regrets.
