Celebrities And Moms Around The World Advocate For Breastfeeding

Pink
Pink may be a rock star and a mother but she is also a "militant breastfeeding" activist and she has words for anyone who may disagree with her.

She recently told a British talk show that she almost got into a fight with a man who commented that breastfeeding in public was "disgusting", even though she was using a cover.

She also breastfed during a radio interview with Ryan Seacrest, telling him that her left boob "was more talented" than her right. (Those of us who breastfed know exactly what she is talking about.) She added that she had to take out her nipple rings because of the sprinkler action (sorry, I don't know what she is talking about.)

A Man Experiences Labour Pain And Can't Hack It

A TV host, doctor, and father of three tried a daring experiment: he underwent simulated labour pain to see if he, on behalf of men everywhere, could take it.

With an obstetrician and physiologist at his side, Dr. Andrew Rochford hooked up electrodes to his abdomen that were timed to mimic the contractions of a woman in labour for the first time.

Breakfast, The Most Important And, Possibly, The Most Challenging Meal

My daughter is not a breakfast eater. She likes something light like fruit and I am lucky if she throws in a piece of cheese while I'm yelling: "you need some protein!" Sometimes she even sneaks out of the house without anything.

When my daughter walks out the door without eating much, I think: it's okay -- just this once.

You Are Doing Everything Wrong: Baby Edition

It's 'you are doing everything wrong week', especially if you have a baby. Or maybe we should call it 'don't listen to your mother's advice' week.

First, new research that said pacifiers stunt the emotional growth of boys. Then news came out that swaddling is dangerous.

And finally, if you gave your baby vegetables as their first food, you were wrong about that too. The new Canadian guidelines from Health Canada say that iron-rich foods, such as meat, are the best way to start off with solids.

Pacifiers May Stunt Emotional Growth Of Boys

If your baby boy is a binky addict -- or was one -- you can add emotional issues as well as dental problems and ear infections to your list of reasons to feel guilty.

A new study out of the University of Winconsin-Madison found that boys who used pacifiers lacked emotional depth all the way into young adulthood. Pacifier use has been linked to many health issues before but this is the first study to look at the long-term psychological effects.

Ben Affleck Doesn't Want To Be A Stay-At-Home Dad

Ben Affleck talked about parenting for men's magazine Details, and he was surprisingly honest in his self-assessment, saying that Jennifer does most of the work and he isn't "always present" even when he is there physically.

He also addresses a familiar feeling to anyone who feels the stress of balancing the dual demands of work and home:

The Modern Family Is Changing, Says the Census

The new Census numbers are out and the Canadian family looks a lot different than it used to.

What the stats tell us is that the idea that our country is made up of nuclear families with a mom and dad and 2.4 children under one roof is now outdated. Just less than one quarter of the population is the old-fashioned nuclear family.

Married couples are still 67 percent of the population but the growth in the other numbers show that we are in a society in flux. In fact, single parent households have increased 14 percent since five years ago and same-sex couples have increased 42 percent, (but still make up less than one percent of Canadian households).

Women's Birthing Choices Being Threatened, Says Film

There is no debate (for me) that birth is a more medicalized process than it needs to be with far too many Cesareans and interventions intruding on a natural process.

Many of my friends have had home births in order to avoid the medical establishment. They have had lovely midwives who provided wonderful, mindful care.

And yet... I am really of two minds about the exaltation of the home birth and super-natural birth movement. I realize this comes in opposition to my pro-extended breastfeeding, babywearing, co-sleeping parenting reputation but a home birth would have most likely killed my son and I, so I can never shake that feeling of fear.

How Much Would You Pay For A Baby Girl?

A Canadian couple paid $40,000 just to make sure they had a baby girl.

They already had three healthy boys at home, but the mother always saw herself as a mother to a girl so they kept paying until happened. Sex selection is illegal in Canada so the obsessed couple had to turn to the U.S. to make sure their fantasy of having a girl came true.

I sure hope that kid likes pink.

Jessica Simpson Sparks Baby Bikini Scandal

The newest buzz about Jessica Simpson doesn't have to do with her own wardrobe choices and her body image. But her baby Maxwell's.

Jessica was on the new Katie Couric show, debuting her "new post-baby body" and her whole "I'm just you, I'm no supermodel" rhetoric. There was a tease about a bikini shot coming up and then, after the break there was a picture of little 4-month-old Maxwell Drew in a yellow crochet bikini.
