What Would You Do If You Were a Witness to Spanking?

After writing about spanking yesterday, and reading the comments of the people who spanked and were spanked. I have to admit my mind has not been changed, the bottom line is that I do not condone hitting children. So, I was wondering what I would I do if I witnessed a parent spanking a child?

Would I step in? Would I just shoot dirty looks? Would I walk away muttering and tweeting? Would I take a moment to understand what was going on? Would I hand them a card from the Parenting Network and then move on?

I have seen parents smack their kids for small issues like backtalk and bigger ones. I have seen adults smack kids out of anger, and out of fear. But I'm not sure I have ever seen parents haul a kid over their knee and spank them.

Would I sit in a McDonald's like Motherhood Uncensored white knuckling it? Or would I march in and stop it?

To be honest, I would probably go the dirty looks, Twitter route. Out of fear of escalation for myself and the child.

Has anyone ever stepped in and stopped a parent from spanking a child? Has anyone ever given another parent support? Did it make a difference?

Want more chaos? Last year, I asked if it was better to have kids when you were young or older?
