What Life Lessons Have You Learned From Your Kids?
Do you ever stop to think about what you have learned from your kids? Not the usual 'I never knew I could love so much' stuff but the actual life lessons that you have learned.
Because I have learned some pretty amazing things from my kids. In fact, I am learning from them all the time. This amusing list from Men's Health has a few of my faves on them but I would add:
Even Your Average Day Deserves a Tutu: Why wait for a special occasion to pull out the sparkle?
Notice Difference Without Judgement: Kids aren't scared of people who are different, but they are honestly curious. They don't hide their questions - nor do they judge.
Give Love With Abandon II: My kids have three grandfathers and three grandmothers. They do not differentiate between blood and step-relatives, they don't love one over another. They love everyone equally because they have so much to give.
Try Something New Everyday: Sometimes we get hung up on the things that the kids don't do like try new foods, or shoes or activities. But the truth is that everything is new to kids - each day is filled with new experiences, new lessons and being dragged along on somebody else's schedule.
Be Fearless: My kids are my heroes. They face uncertainty, cold lakes and roller coasters and jump right in. If only I was half as brave as them.
What have you learned from your kids?
Want more chaos? Last year I wrote about how I thought the Back to School Shopping Panic was created by marketers, which is kind of what I was saying on the CBC National the other night too. Nice to know I'm consistent.
