Bloggers to Love

It sounds like hyperbole to say that my life has been changed by blogs and blogging. Perhaps enriched is the best way to say it – I have learned and been challenged by the incredible roster of good writing out there that I am going to leave you this long weekend (the first or the last) of the year.

I know some of the writers behind some of these blogs, others I met at blogging conferences and others I have never met, and wouldn’t recognize walking down the street even though I have read their intimate words.

I was going to organize them into categories like: passion, knowledge, laughs but the best bloggers have all of that in almost every post. So here is who I read regularly (in no particular order).

Redneck Mommy: She lets you into her life and never lets go.

Kids are Allright: great writing and deep thoughts from a Toronto mom who was also a BlogHer Voice of the Year.

Where there is a Willer: A self-deprecating mom trying to balance working downtown, home in ‘burbs, kids, a husband who pilots for fun and everything else.

The Inside Scoop (Yummy Mummy Club): You will be nodding in agreement while laughing as Sharon lays bare her life and thoughts on being a mother, wife and friend. (I also love Earnest Girl at YMC for her beautiful flights of fancy).

Everything Mom: this is a good informative site, but I have been reading the Mom Esteem group for its raw power as one woman struggles with the demons that we all have that bring us down.

Frog and Toad are Still Friends: Becks’ vaguely religious life  in a tiny town in Northern Ontario could not be different than my own, but her acerbic wit keeps me going back.

Sweet/Salty: For the photos, the writing, the heartbreak, for the knowledge that Kate will always be cooler than you

The Bloggess: Often totally out there, hilarious and with heart. You never know what to expect from the Bloggess.

PhDinParenting: Annie has an incredible talent of synthesizing a vast amount of research into easy to understand language. You may not always agree with her but she is required reading.

Scary Mommy: her posts are often to-the-point, a little caustic (or very caustic), sometimes sentimental and usually very funny.

Her Bad Mother: head-spiningly smart (she would probably never make up such a word), she proves that bad is the new good.

Can’t talk about “mommy blogs” without mentioning Motherlode, Lisa Belkin at the New York Times is not a personal blogger but she raises the bar and creates discussion on the big issues. I want to be her when I grow up.

Add to the list. Who are your favourite blogs? Who did you discover this year?
